When you are pregnant with your second child, it can be a lot of fun to do a pregnancy photoshoot with your toddler. This guide will give you some tips on how to have a successful photoshoot with your little one. First, let’s talk about ideas for the shoot. There are so many possibilities! So let’s get started!
Family Pregnancy photoshoot with Toddler
I believe that the best photos of a pregnant mom, her partner and their todler should be of a daily activity they could do together. Hens, I believe the best option is to perform this photo session at your own home. This way, your todler will be more comfortable in his or her own environment and you will have more props available to you. You can even turn it into a game for your todler!
So, my best ideas for a daily activity that could photograph well:
-You or your partner cooking while the other one and toddler play together in the background
-Pregnant mom and partner reading a book together while the toddler looks on
-The family eating breakfast, lunch, or dinner together
-You or your partner doing laundry while the partner and toddler play around her
-Pregnant mom and partner taking a walk together while the toddler rides in a wagon or stroller. (Yes, I know this one could be outside of your house…)
-You can also bring the whole family together for one day. But keep it simple! a perfect location will be a backyard, or a local park.
These are just a few ideas to get you started. The important thing is to choose an activity that you and your family enjoy doing together. This way, the photos will reflect your true relationship and connection with one another.
Once you have chosen the activity, it is time to start thinking about how to best capture the moment.
Funny Maternity Photoshoot Ideas with Your Toddler
One of the best things about having a toddler is that they are often unpredictable! This can actually be a good thing when it comes to taking photos. You never know what they are going to do next, which can make for some very funny and candid shots.
Here are a few ideas for capturing those hilarious moments:
-Get down on their level and take photos of them playing. This way, you can capture all of their facial expressions and body language.
-Take photos of them while they are eating. This is often when they make the funniest faces!
-Capture them in the middle of a tantrum. Yes, it may be difficult to do, but it will definitely be worth it in the end.
-Take photos of them while they are sleeping. They always look so sweet and peaceful when they are asleep. If you want to take a picture of the entire family together, you can take one while everyone is snuggling on the bed or couch.
These are just a few ideas for taking funny photos of your toddler. Again, the important thing is to just have fun with it and see what you can come up with!
If you are doing the photoshoot DIY style, here are a few tips:
-Use a tripod! This will allow you to be in some of the photos with your family.
-Set the timer on your camera and run into position just before the photo is taken.
-If you have a DSLR camera, put it in continuous shooting mode. This way, you can take a bunch of photos in quick succession and are sure to get at least one good one.
-If you don’t have a DSLR camera, you can use your phone! There are a lot of great phone cameras out there these days. Just be sure to set it up on a tripod or stable surface.
-Edit your photos afterwards to make them look their best. There are a lot of great photo editing apps out there that are very user-friendly.
-Get creative with your angles! Get low, get high, lay down on the ground, stand on a chair… mix it up!
-You don’t have to do everything by yourself! I’m sure your best friend or a big brother will be glad to help you in the big day. You’d be surprised to see how many people around you have some experience with photography. No one has to be a maternity photographer in order to get some good photos of your family.
-And finally, have fun with it! This is a special time in your family’s life and these photos will be cherished memories.
Maternity Photo Shoot – General Ideas
Now that you have some ideas for your family pregnancy photoshoot, it’s time to start thinking about how to capture the perfect moment.
Here are a few general tips for maternity photography:
-Wear something that makes you feel beautiful. This is not the time to be self-conscious! You are gorgeous and deserve to feel like it.
-If you are comfortable, bare your belly! This is such a special time in your life and your children will love seeing these photos when they are older.
-Get creative with props! If you are doing the shoot at home, you can use items from around the house to add interest to the photos. Books, blankets, stuffed animals, hats, etc.
-If you are not comfortable showing your belly, that’s OK! There are plenty of other ways to capture the beauty of pregnancy. You can wear a flowing dress or put your hands on your belly.
-Remember to take breaks! Pregnancy is exhausting and you will need to take breaks throughout the shoot.
Maternity Photos with Toddler FAQ
Q: Can I do the shoot at home?
A: Yes! In fact, many people choose to do maternity shoots in the comfort of their own homes. This can be a great way to save money and still get beautiful photos.
Q: Do I need to hire a professional photographer?
A: Not necessarily. If you are comfortable taking your own photos, then there is no need to hire a professional photographer. However, if you want someone else to handle the photography, then it is definitely worth hiring a professional. You can always read my guide about DIY photography 🙂
Q: What should my family wear for the session?
A: It is best to avoid matching outfits. Instead, opt for complementary colors and styles. You want everyone to feel comfortable in what they are wearing. If you are not sure what to wear, just wear white.
Q: How long will the session take?
A: Maternity shoots can take anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours. If you DIY, it’s really up to you.
Q: What is the golden hour?
A: The golden hour is the time just after sunrise or just before sunset when the light is soft and warm. This is the best time to take photos outdoors. In this article we mainly spoke about indoor pictures, so that might not apply to you.
Q: How can I make sure my toddler cooperates?
A: This is often the hardest part of the shoot! You will just need to be patient and try to keep things fun. It helps to have someone else there to help wrangle the toddler while you take photos. You can also try bribery (a sticker or a small treat usually does the trick). I think that if you do the session the first way I offered, which means taking everyday activities and taking photos of them, your Toddler will be more cooperative from the beginning.
A maternity shoot with your toddler is a great idea!
I hope that these tips will help you to get the best photos possible. With a little planning, you can capture beautiful memories that will last a lifetime.
