There are so many wonderful and memorable moments to be captured in a baby’s first year. However, sometimes it can be difficult to know where to start when it comes to designing photoshoots for your little boy. To help you out, I’ve created a list of some of my favourite photo shoot ideas for new parents with baby boys!
1. Dress the baby as a celebrity
This is a fantastic idea for any occasion, but especially for the baby’s first photoshoot. Your little boy may not have much of an opinion about his outfit, so by dressing him up as a famous person, he’ll feel special and more confident in a new outfit. Plus, he’ll appreciate that you’ve dressed him up for the experience!
2. Simple shots of babies in blankets
These are beautiful and very easy to create. Pick out some cute outfits, and then just wrap your baby boy up in a blanket. You can pick from plain muslin or satin blankets or get creative with print designs. The possibilities are endless for colours and designs when it comes to these types of blankets.
3. Baby mannequin
This is an idea that many photographers use to get a variety of shots. To do this, you’ll need to rent a mannequin head from stores such as Ikea. You can then pose and pose with your baby in the mannequin’s clothes. This is a fun idea for boys because it will help them understand what it is like to be “dressed up” for pictures!
4. Photo shoot using props
A great way to create a picture that will look great when printed is to use some authentic props and pictures. You can find a lot of these on flea markets or online. Don’t worry if they don’t look professional at first, they’ll still look great when printed alongside your own professional photos of your little boy!
5. Photo shoot with the family pet
A lot of people have cats, dogs and other pets that they love dearly. You can take pictures with your baby and the pet together, or you can simply take a picture of just the two of them. This is a great way to show your little boy how much you love him and your pet, and it is also an opportunity for you to capture some beautiful photos.
6. Photo shoot with a friend
You could try to take your baby and his best friend out for a fun photoshoot. You can dress up one of them and use props, or you could just get pictures of the two of them together. This is a great way to add some character to the pictures, while still showing how close you all are as a family.
7. Make up shots
If you’re looking for some unique photos with your little boy, then consider doing some make up shots. You can either buy some fake hair and add some makeup to your baby boy, or you could even just use a little bit of face paint. Either way, this is a unique way to capture your little boy’s “theatrical” side.
8. Photo shoot with siblings
If you have another child, such as a baby girl or older boy, then you could take some picture of them together with your little baby. Maybe they can hold the baby together, or maybe they can help out by simply getting some cute pictures with their sibling. Either way, this is a great way to demonstrate that your little boy has big brothers and sisters who love him.
9. Photo shoot with grandparents
Grandparents are some of the most important people in a person’s life, so why not get pictures of grandma and grandpa with their grandson? You could get pictures of the three of you together or maybe just pictures of them with your little boy. This is a great way to immortalise your baby boy’s new grandparents.
10. Photo shoot using a painting
There are many beautiful paintings that you could use for inspiration. For example, you could create a fun and colourful photo where you pose your little boy as if he were in a painting by Roy Lichtenstein or Andy Warhol. Alternatively, you could even just buy some fake paintings for your child to stand next to. The possibilities are endless!
11. Photo shoot with the baby’s favourite toy
If you have a favourite toy, then you could use it in a photoshoot. Find a nice way to pose the toy, and then just take pictures of your little boy playing with his favourite toy. This is a great way to feature your child’s special possessions and toys, while creating a fun and unique picture.
12. Photo shoot with a stuffed toy
Even better than dolls or toys that your little boy already has, you could buy a stuffed toy and use it in a photo shoot. You could pose your baby as if he were in the sky, or get him to look like he’s in his favourite characters’ place. This is an easy way to get unique pictures and help your little boy display his love for his favourite toys.
13. Photo shoot with the family car
Many families have a car that is a bit of an icon in the family, so you could get some great pictures by using this as inspiration. Maybe you can dress up your baby boy as he’s next to the car, or maybe you can even just take some photos of him with the actual car. This is a fun way to get some great pictures and show off your family’s favourite possession.
14. Photo shoot with a hobby
If your little boy has a favourite hobby, then why not do a photoshoot with him surrounded by his toys and tools? This will give you an opportunity to use some props, while also helping your baby understand that there’s more to life than just playing with toys. It also helps instil in him that you want him to learn new skills as he grows older!
15. Professional photos of the family in the park
If you live in a nice part of town, then why not take your baby boy to the park and take some pictures there? This is a fun idea because you’re sure to get some great pictures for a family album, and it also helps instil in your baby how much he loves being outdoors. Meanwhile, he’s sure to love playing with the new friends that you make!
16. Hair and makeup photoshoot
You can either go all out with the hair and make up and photograph your baby boy in a fun outfit, or you can just take some basic pictures of your baby boy wearing a simple outfit. If you’re feeling adventurous, this is also a great way to get some unique inspiration for your own little boy.
17. Photo shoot in the country
Even if you live in the country, you can still get some great pictures of your little boy by taking him to the countryside. They tend to be more interesting, as there’s a lot more space for pictures. It also helps instil in your little boy how much he loves nature and the outdoors. In time, he’ll start finding things that are fun to do outdoors and be able to tell you about them himself!
18. Photo shoot on the beach
You could take a photoshoot of the family on the beach, or you could take some pictures of your baby boy while he’s playing with sand. In case you live in a hot place, this is a great idea if you want to use some cool and sunny weather as an inspiration. You can also just get some picture of your little baby boy at the beach or in swimming pools or lakes.
19. Photo shoot in the city
You don’t need to take your baby boy out of the city to take pictures. In fact, you can take some great pictures at home! Either way, either find cool and interesting backgrounds for your little one or just use a lot of props. You can also use this as an opportunity to provide some reassurance that he’s safe when he’s indoors.
20. Photo shoot on a warm day
You can take some pictures of your baby boy in the summertime. You could either get natural pictures, or you could get lots of pictures where the baby is wearing hats and fancy outfits. You could also use this as an opportunity to take some cool pictures at home, to great effect. Either way, this is a great chance for your little boy to enjoy the summertime and to have fun in the sun!
